Gwen MacGregor
Bio Gwen MacGregor (Toronto) is well known for her work that includes sculpture installation, photography and video as she records temporal environments revealing the wondrous and uncanny in the familiar. Her work has been referred to as a kind of anecdotal archaeology, but her main subject is the immediate environment in which she works. Her work reflects the close observation of time as it is manifested in objects, acts and movement. MacGregor has participated in gallery exhibitions as well as projects that have used unusual sites such as a parking lot, an old barley mill and a storage locker. In 1998 her work was featured in a solo exhibition at the Southern Alberta Art Gallery and in 2001 her work was presented in the Present Tense Project series at the Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto. MacGregor's work has also been shown in many group exhibitions across Canada and in Mexico City, London, Prague, Venice, Shanghai and Los Angeles. Solo exhibitions include Jessica Bradley Art + Projects, Toronto (2006), La Centrale, Montreal (2004), and Oakville Galleries (2002). She has also participated in several artist residency programs in 2004 she received the Canada Council New York Studio award. http://www.jessicabradleyartprojects.com/artists/36 The Centre for Contemporary Canadian Art The Canadian Art Database |
