Robert Fones (1949- )
Robert Fones was born in London, Ontario in 1949. He attended London's famous H.B. Beal
Secondary School (aka Beal Tech) which produced some of Southern Ontario's
most renowned artists and writers. Primarily known as a visual artist, Fones
was a kind of Wyndham Lewis manqué in his youth. He began to exhibit
his work in London in 1969 and has shown since then at Carmen Lamanna Gallery, S.L.
Simpson Gallery, and currently shows with Olga Korper. In 1989 The Power Plant
in Toronto organized a survey exhibition entitled "Robert Fones, Selected Works 1979-1989."
Along with literary works published by Coach House, Fones has also published
catalogues in relation to his exhibitions and artist's books with Art Metropole.
One of a few writers
in this survey who crossed over into other disciplines successfully, his
books are Kollages (1970), Anthropomorphiks (1971), The
Forest City (1974) and Head Paintings (1998).
