THE RED HEART
THE MAN WHOSE PATH WAS ON FIRE

James Reaney

I CHING SYMBOL

Dispersion Limitation (Dissolution)

I am the he
whose parts are scattered
hopelessly, entrails
fouling the well.

I have been waiting
for my friends to find the poem, & now,
with the mention of music,
they come, as if in boats
fashioned of fired-out tree trunks,
borne by a wind
across the lake

The image
is of dispersion, like the seeds
on the wind, caught,
we go forth, our gestures
shaped by the wind
to a dance.
