Emblem Books (1954-1962)

Toronto
Jay Macpherson

The first two titles from Emblem Books were intended strictly for private circulation and
were modestly produced by mimeograph and assembled by the editor's own hand. The
Livesay collection was brought on board by literary critic and future anthologist, Milton
Wilson. Macpherson made contact with Ottawa designer/printer Robert Rosewarne in
1960, a collaboration that resulted in the finely printed and beautifully designed final
volumes in the Emblem series.
