Rattlesnake Press / Tishbooks (1961-1962)

Vancouver, B.C.
George Bowering, Frank Davey, David Dawson, Jamie Reid and Fred Wah

TISH began as a 'poetry newsletter' perpetrated by Warren Tallman's writing class the the University of British Columbia in 1961. The legend has it that Robert Duncan, visiting and lecturing from California's Bay Area, advised the students to call their proposed publication SHIT; but this was, after all, Canada, so the anagram would have to suffice. The group's foray into book publishing was a stumbling, short-lived affair.

1962        D-Day and After, Frank Davey
1962        Sticks and Stones, George Bowering
1962        Songs of Circumstance, Lionel Kearns
