Bonnie Devine biography
Born in Toronto where she continues to live and work, Bonnie Devine is a graduate of the Ontario College
of Art and Design and received her MFA from York University. A writer, director, educator, curator
and multidisciplinary artist, Devine works in a variety of media including video, installation, performance,
sculpture, drawing and mixed media. Combining subject matter that is frequently rooted in her
Ojibway heritage with non-traditional materials, Devine's work interrogates the intersections of history,
memory, land and identity. Her work has been featured in many exhibitions and festivals across
Canada and internationally. Devine has also received numerous awards and grants including the
City of Toronto Visual Arts Protégé Award, Ontario Society of Artists Curry Award, as well
as several grants from both the Ontario Arts Council and Canada Council.
