Curators's Statement
There are places I'll remember
All my life though some have changed
Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remain
All these places have their moments
With lovers and friends...
In my life I've loved them all
-In My Life, John Lennon
Public space, through the private and sometimes secretive imaginings of the artist,
is a site of transformation.
This is my secret city:
Emelie Chhangur takes the bus to work everyday. TPTPC , a new Nuit Blanche public transit
system routed in contemporary art is a forum for public ex change.
I recently discovered Lewis Kaye is my cousin. The official Nuit Blanche audio guide, You
Are Here meditates on temporary public art by creating a portable audio forum located in your personal
mp3 player.
Christie Pearson is obsessed with swimming pools. Night Swim recalls an ancient forum
from a city of the past - a Roman Bath.
Darren O'Donnell 's barber is ten years old. Ballroom Dancing , an all-ages dance party
DJ-ed by kids, is a forum for children and adults to play together all night long in a gymnasium filled
with thousands of rubber balls.
Anthea Foyer, Maria Legault and Aurianne Sokolowski , Adam & Dave, Linda
Duvall , and Micheline Roi spin tales, weave words, make myths, play tricks, falsify facts
and tell lies.
Guided tours investigate the narrative form. Stories from the city connect secrets to
geography.
Dean Baldwin, Fedora Romita, Erika James, Vendart Project and A Collection of Foreign Objects are
model citizens - or are they? Expressions of citizenship explore the intimate and occasionally illicit
relationship between places and people.
Nichola Feldman-Kiss, Sabrina Soccaccio, Bruno Billio, AAA Bantam Art Team and Ulysses Castellanos
like to play in public. Artists' private activities from going to sleep to visiting a friend's house
activate public space to create new impromptu community, my secret city.
I am certain my secret is safe with you.
