Johanne Billing
Made in collaboration with a group of children from a cultural centre
outside Zagreb, Croatia, this film records the rehearsal of the
song “Magical World”. Written by African-American singer
Sidney Barnes in 1968, the lyrics speak of personal transformation
with both pride and
melancholy. These conflicting emotions defined life in post-war
Croatia – much as they defined life in America in 1968 at
the close of the civil rights struggle.
